Kathmandu, Jan 8:
Wild Yak, which is considered among species on a downhill path of extinction, has been found at the remote mountainous district of Humla.
Humla, which rests at the north-west tip of Nepal, is famous of its cold remote climate and different species of animals and medicinal herbs.
An organization ‘Friends of Nature’ has been carrying out research on the flora and fauna and herbs in the region for the last three years.
It has revealed that Humla has high potential for habitation of a variety of animals and herbs.
The organization in recent times carried out a research on the wild yaks and found the existence of yak in the region after 53 years underscoring the challenges of preserving the species.
Two wild yaks were found in Gyaukhola valley located in Limi VDC of upper Humla in course of research.
Friends of Nature’s conservation official Naresh Kusi warned that the Yak may get extinct from Nepal if proper conservation is not carried out.
The Wild Yak is blacker in appearance as compared to domestic yaks with sharp horns and black countenance, a study has revealed.
The organization has also discovered a new species of bird named ‘Tibetan Lark’. The Tibetan Lark is new species found in Nepal.
