Seeds production programme becoming effective in Rolpa

  • Rolpa, 3 Jan.

The seed production programme run under the Integrated Water Resource Management Project implemented by the District Agricultural Development Office, Rolpa is becoming effective.

Under the project, the seeds production programme and other agro-related programmes have been implemented in two VDCs--Kotagaun and Jedabang—for six years.

Seeds of maize, rice and wheat are being produced in some 5,000 hectares of land which is being supplied to other parts of the district, District Agricultural Development Office (DADO) Rolpa's agriculture extension officer Rabindra Poudel said. The office provides 50 per cent subsidy in the purchase of parent seeds to farmers.

The seed production programme has increased farmer's access to hybrid seeds, contributing to the increase in production and productivity as well.

These two villages where the programme is launched are known as pocket areas for agro seeds production. We hope for better results in the days ahead, Poudel said. The office is thinking on possibilities for the expansion of programme to other villages as well, he added.
